The Aga Khan Mausoleum is located 2.5 miles from Aswan Train Station, and was built by the famous Muhammad Shah, known as the Aga Khan III. He was the spiritual leader of the Ismaili Shi'a community in India, and the Imam No. 48 in 1885, was one of the richest men in the world.

Aga Khan was suffering from rheumatism and bone pain, and his friend advised him to travel to Aswan in the hope of recovering; Due to the popularity of medical tourism in Aswan for its healthy atmosphere and healing sands, he traveled to Aswan in 1954 with his wife and followers, and he buried his legs in the sand of Aswan daily, and after a week recovered completely from his illness, and decided to visit Aswan every winter, then built a villa and a cemetery to commemorate the memory of His recovery in this place is buried after his death.

The mausoleum is built of pink granite, similar to the Fatimid tombs in Cairo, and is located near the Monastery of St. Simeon on the West Bank in Aswan, and the mausoleum is built on a hill that gives visitors a panoramic view of the area.

Agha Khan's wife continued to visit the shrine after her husband's death and recommended that flowers be placed on the grave every day, and when she died, she was buried with her husband, and the shrine attracted many Ismaili pilgrims and visitors from all over the world, and is considered a prominent landmark within the tourist attractions in Aswan.
